A Practical Workshop Introducing the Math Toolkit - Jodo Gyan

Mathematics at Primary level has been a challenge as it encompasses thousands of years of the human journey of working on the earth, of measuring and building and transforming the world. Today, the patterns that children discover evolve into mathematical objects which allow them to reason out every time they come across a new object and at the same time challenges teachers to ‘go beyond the given’ because children need to develop these new abstract skills.

Hence, to equip and assist the Math teachers of Grade 1 - 7, Ms. Nandita from Delhi, conducted a workshop at GIS introducing the Math ToolKit - Jodo Gyan. Math teachers were practically engaged in activities using Jodo Gyan and practised the journey from concrete situations to the abstractions of Mathematics. Through this practical workshop, teachers gained practices of scaffolding which they would apply in their classrooms so that the children will be able to evolve these tools into ‘tools of the mind’.

This three-hour workshop attended by 17 teachers was held on 18th & 19th August 2015. GIS wishes to thank Ms. Nandita and the Shrieducare team for always providing professional facilitations to the teachers.
