A scrumptious breakfast buffet was arranged for the teachers in the school hall, followed by a special assembly where teachers were presented with cards.  The highlight of the assembly was the unveiling of the school mascot, “Sparky” to the delighted squeals and shouts of students and teachers.   It was a historic moment for the school as GIS made history, by becoming the first school in the Maldives with a school mascot.
Different activities were held after the assembly.  A netball match between the parents and teachers, football match between teachers and students and a netball match between teachers and students were held.
The customary teacher’s dinner was held on the 7th night in the school hall. The dinner was an elegant affair – excellent food, beautiful décor and full of fun and surprises for the teachers. The PTA had taken a lead role in the dinner arrangements and the school entrance and the hall were decorated in a magnificent arrangement of lights and cloth.  Each teacher was presented with a surprise gift. Several performers performed on stage including a flawless bandiyaa item by some parents, Habeys Boduberu group, Suneetha,  and some of the singers from the top ten of the Maldivian Idol.
It was a fitting tribute to the endless efforts of teachers and we thank the school PTA and especially the EXCO for a wonderful evening.
