The election of the Students’ Council of GIS was held today in the school hall, after a week of campaigning. The voting process was carried online, assisted by the IT department of the school. The GIS Alumni acted as officials in addition to the assigned teachers from the school. A total of 59 candidates contested in the election and parents of the candidates were invited to witness the voting process

Applicants were screened through a process of interview and verbal testing of their religious knowledge, appropriate to their grade level. Candidates were given three days to campaign which was done according to a guideline. The three days of campaign was an exciting exercise with badges being distributed and colourful posters displayed in the school. The candidates were given the opportunity to speak to the voting community in the school, which is grades 4 to 10. At every stage students were educated on the importance of respecting opponents and of healthy competition.

This is the third year of online voting in the school, thanks to the expertise of the IT coordinator Mr. Muaz and his team. The voting status was displayed live in the hall and shared on Facebook as well. Parents of the candidates were invited to witness the voting which began at 0900 hrs and went on for approximately 4 hours. The results were announced by the Principal at 1600hrs in the presence of all candidates and the Senior Management of the school.
