{flike}

With the introduction of PBL in the year 2013, learning has been taken to new heights in different subjects at different grades. When the work on PBL first began, students and teachers started with a collaborative project on 'Oceans' with Grade fives and then was followed by a successful project on 'Saving Energy' in the school, also by Grades 4 & 5. Since then, various work had been done during the past two years as well and this year, GIS wanted to display great-works of PBL.Projects for different grades were selected and work was begun in the first term. Over a period of 3 – 4 months, students had done a lot of work and studies went into depth.

The purpose of PBL is to create opportunities for students to gain knowledge and skills by working for an extended period of time which would allow them to investigate and respond to authentic, engaging and complex questions, problems or challenges. This purpose was achieved through the activities the students did over the past 3 – 4 months and their great-works were realised on 29th August 2017 for Grades 4 & 5 and on 30th August 2017 for Grades 6 to 9. Students of Gr. 4 & 5 worked around the theme 'Marine Life and Mangroves' whereas Gr. 6 & 7 worked around the theme 'Oceans'. Similarly, the Gr. 8 & 9 also worked around a theme - 'Coconut Palm'. The students and teachers presented their great-works in the school hall which was attended by their parents. Students were also given flexibility to choose subjects when it came to present the work to their parents. Insightful great-works were shared during this activity.
