GAP YEAR FOR THE BETTER?
By: Mabruka Mohamed Jiyad
Scrapbooks, bucket lists, dream books and wish lists. These are the things we teenagers get ourselves caught up with. We desire to make plans to fulfill our dreams, but do we really give a thought about when? Are we really planning to spend 20 years studying and the next few years fulfilling our dreams? Majority of students after O’ levels or before starting universities take a year off.
After 10 years of continuous studying, taking a Gap year is a wise choice. Mostly because it is an efficient way of freeing yourself from the sea of stress you had escalated around yourself. By taking a gap year you get an opportunity to save money, to relax yourself, experience new things or go on a tour which could really help you fill your scrapbook and accomplish some of the things in your bucket list. These gap years had helped a lot of students to get a new perspective on how others are and also on the world as they loosen up a bit and get socialized more without wasting time at home being a couch potato.
Therefore it is a clever idea to take a gap year before your university or after your O’levels. Though you need to be careful to spend at least an hour a week to study and make sure you don’t lose your interest or forget your subject. And also you have to plan your gap year well so that it won’t be a total waste, which as a result will make you lose your career, perspective, scholarships and time.
I believe that every student should have a gap year before you go to further studies to refresh yourself and release tiredness and stress. And at least fulfill half of your dreams because you can never have full guarantee whether you’ll get a chance to fill your books later. (words 314)
