Mobile Phones at school

Cell phones create a convenience that was previously unavailable. Nowadays, a vast majority of students bring their mobile phones to school. Most schools now allow students to have cell phones but expect them to be turned off during class because they can be disruptive and distracting.

Firstly, many students travel to and from school without their parents. Therefore, it is a necessity in dire emergency in case they need help or meet with an accident. Besides, the child can reach out to authorities or a medical provider. Furthermore, parents who work may need to contact their children and know their whereabouts and thus can simultaneously monitor them.

On the other hand, nothing is more disruptive during a lesson than the ringing of a mobile which could be annoying. Moreover, teachers believe that students who send and receive text messages in class do not pay enough attention to the lesson. In addition to this, they even get caught up in downloading, uploading and playing games.

In conclusion, I strongly feel that students should be allowed to take mobile phones to school to counter with inevitable situations. However, for the benefit of the learners, all phones should certainly be turned off during the lessons. (202)
