THE FAULT IN OUR STARS

As soon as I started reading the book, the fault in our stars, I was intrigued by it. The novel written by the famous author, John Green, is a young adult fiction. It was published in January 2012 and has ever since captured the interest of millions of readers.
Hazel Grace is a 16 year old, suffering the vicious claws of thyroid cancer since the age of 13. She has a strong bond with her parents and was advised by them to join a support group where she meets Augustus Waters. He is a young boy of age 17, who has lost his leg to Osteosarcoma. They start off as friends and the relationship later blooms into something more.
The novel focuses on portraying lessons of love and shows that life is worth living. The two main characters share a lot of interests, one being their interest towards an action novel called An Imperial Affliction. The book is not finished completely which disappoints Hazel. However, Augustus writes to the author of the book, Peter Van Houten, and Hazel is ecstatic to meet him. They both, along with Hazel’s mother fly to Amsterdam to meet the author. The trip turns out to be bad and leads to a chain of events in their lives.
The fault in our stars contains a number of phrases that stood out to me and one of it was in Hazel’s eulogy to Augustus. “You gave me a forever with the numbered days, and I’m grateful.” It shows how thankful the characters are for the few months they got to spend together.
The story is well written and makes the readers to sympathize with Hazel and Augustus. It is a PG-13 rated novel which focuses on two young people who loved and were loved in return and made their numbered days complete. There is no doubt that John Green had left the readers wiping our tears at the end of the book.
All those who are in for a blend of love, sadness and adventure should read John Green’s ‘The Fault in our Stars’.
