An encounter!

I wake up at around 6AM to get ready to go to school. I shower, brush my teeth and I open my closet to choose something to wear. As I put my shirt on, I hear my younger brother, Max wake up. I quickly take my bag and head downstairs to make breakfast. I see my brother come down stairs with his bag and books.

“hey, did you hear about the Central Mall Murder that happened last night?”

“yeah, apparently it was Heather, she was getting off her late shift and he stabbed her in the stomach before the police got there.”

Yeah. I live in Eden. It’s the city that is most known for its brutal murders.

“oh… did you hear who stabbed her?!”

“yeah it was Michael her boyfriend, I don’t understand though, they were inseparable.”

“yeah, they were”

By the time the conversation finished, I finished my breakfast.

“okay, let’s go to school”

I take my bag and go out to my bicycle. We both usually bike to school in silence every day. I look around trying to find my friends, but I can’t find them, they’re probably inside now. The whole school is talking about Heather. I say bye to Max and go in the school. I look around and see a note taped to my locker. It’s from my friends, Claire and Jackson.

I make my way to the second floor after keeping my books in my locker. The moment I stepped into the bathroom I notice the writing on the wall with red paint.

“we didn’t do that, it was there before we came”

“she is back, Dorothy Black is back… what?”

“you don’t know Dorothy Black?!”

I nod in response to Claire’s question, a bit embarrassed.

“she’s like the most cursed witch in Eden. But… she can’t be back, can she?!”

Jackson looks away from the mirror with a questioning face. Dorothy Black was only just a fairy tale… right? The bell rings as soon as Claire and I shrug to the question. We all rush out and split ways. I go to get my books from my locker and pass Heathers on the way there. It is filled from top to bottom with flowers and notes. I speed walk so I don’t miss class. The first period is Math. Both Jackson and Claire are in this class, and they sit next to me. After a while in class, I see a note bring passed to me. It read ‘hey wanna meet at Central Mall Cinema tonight? I hear the new minions movie is really good. Pass this to Claire too’ I write ‘sure’ and pass it over. After a while, Claire passes it and I see she said yes too so all 3 of us will be going. The day goes by and before I know it, I’m at home getting ready to go to the movie. I have to bring Max, or he would’ve to stay home and I do not trust him to stay home with dad.

“Max!! time to go!”

I yell and go down to open the door to go but I’m met face to face with a very drunk version of dad. He’s been like this ever since mom died a year ago. I tried helping him a lot, but he always finds his way back to square 1. He’s just, there now. Well after Max came down, we waited for the car outside. Claire is driving us there since she’s 18 and has a license now. We sing songs like 22 by Taylor Swift all the way there. We finally get there after about 24 songs.

“guys I’ll get the popcorn, you guys can go I’ll catch up with you”

Jackson walks towards the popcorn stand. We all go and find our seats. When the movie started Jackson came with the popcorn. It was so fun. When the movie finished, we stayed back until everyone was gone to take photos, I left the Cinema to find out the mall is closed. We are locked in.

“Oh my god what are we going to do?!”

“I mean… we could stay here? It’s Thursday and we don’t have school tomorrow”

What Jackson suggested sounded like a lot of fun, so we did. The first hour passed and we found out a way to open the shops without getting caught by the security guard who was there. We snacked on a lot, tried on outfits, played with toys which were actually meant for little kids and we did each others make up. By the time it was 2 we had gotten a full make over, face masks and new clothes. We all thought it was really lucky of us to not get caught after such a long time, but our hope was finally crushed at exactly 2:32 AM when the security guard found us at the Arcade.

“um… guys… why’s he holding a knife?!”

Max whispered carefully and scared.

“oh my god!” I yelped

“It’s Dorothy Black!! Run!”

All four of us ran towards the shop right next to the Arcade and went straight to the knives section. Each of us chose a knife.

“hide and don’t make a sound”

Jackson whispered, his voice slightly wavering.

“We need a plan to fight him… her… it?”

Max whispered, clutching his knife and a flashlight in his left.

“oh… yeah we should” Jackson replied after thinking it through a bit.

“okay so… I will call the police, tell them we are at the mall and have been locked in and tell them that the security guard is chasing us with a knife while you guys will go to the fishing section, get gloves and get a net to trap him in” Claire whispered the plan, looking to see if he found us yet.

“but why do you get to call the police, why not me?!” Jackson questioned.

“because I can explain the situation better than you”

Jackson muttered a small ‘true’ and crawled to the fishing section quietly. He came back after a while with 4 pairs of gloves and a net.

“okay let’s catch this security guard”

Claire called the police while Max, Jackson and I went to catch him. Max was the bait and I and Jackson had the net. We both cornered him while Max went behind him and pushed him in. He was thrashing around and he went to jail. We payed for everything we used and went to Claire’s house for a sleepover after we were questioned.

“oh my god that was so scary”

“yeah…”
