Commencement of the School Reading Programme 'GIS READS'
{flike}
Every year, GIS conducts the reading programme ‘READS’ to generate the love for reading among students and to inculcate the habit of reading in them.
This year’s programme began on 1st March 2017 with a special assembly during which stories were read out by the Dhivehi and English HODs, Ms. Shamila and Ms, Saroj. To add to this, a surprising appearance was made by the school deputy principals, Ms. Ahmeema and Ms. Shirmeena with a remarkable talent shown by reading aloud a classical story. Students enjoyed the stories read and took various morals from the stories. The school foyer was decorated in the form of a library where students could sit and enjoy reading. A special appearance of the school mascot ‘Sparky’ was seen at the assembly and during the end of session of grade 1 students.
GIS Reads basically focuses on promoting reading and learning skills, accelerating the reading speed and expanding vocabulary rather than being prize oriented. During the six months from 1st March onwards, students have the choice to read story books and informative books both in Dhivehi and English languages.
Students will choose books from the choices available from the school library, classroom, home and the students also have the option to read digital books such as e-books, PDF books and from the online library. There are three categories of rewards awarded: Proficient Reader, Enthusiastic Reader and Keen Reader. The assessing of the programme is planned to start from 30th March onwards, after the session. The guideline of the programme along with the schedule is uploaded on the parent web portal for the reference of both parents and students.
