GIS has a culture of giving 'Red Carpet Honour' for teams who bring great success to the school by achieving 'Champion titles'. In this regard, on 10th April 2018, a special assembly was held to honour the Champion teams of the Interschool Chess Championship 2018.

The Champion teams: Under 8, Under 10 and Under 12 were given a Red Carpet Honour as they walked into the school on 10th April 2018. During the special gathering, the team members were given the medals and trophies awarded to them at the closing ceremony of the Interschool Chess Championship 2018. Apart from the Champion teams, the Under 14 team members were also given their medals and trophy they were awarded for getting third place from this Championship. This success is the result of the proper training conducted by Coaches Hussain Vishau Mohamed and Hassan Nasih. To apprieciate their effective coaching and to acknowledge their work, a token of appreciation was given to both coaches at this special assembly.

Speaking at this special assembly, Principal Thoha Saleem thanked the coaches, the players and specially the parents for their untiring effort in assisting the students to become successful players. He also stressed the importance of being physically fit to play any sport and that Playing Chess also requires students to stay physically fit. He further assured that the school would focus on working in this area and see that students who play Chess are also provided with such training.
