On the 10th of May 2018, GIS too celebrated the Children's day with euphoria which brought a lot of enjoyment and laughter to our students – the celebration was one of the cherished parts of the GIS family!

As we themed the day around 'tradition', all students and staff wore traditional costumes when they came to school. The students were welcomed by all teachers and Exco members of the school PTA. The traditional décor in the school foyer brought smiles on the students' beautiful faces. The décor created by the PTA Exco was in way that everyone felt the touch of tradition in them.

The day began with a special assembly and the moment the students were asked to gather in the school compound, class wise and were presented with a celebration cake was a surprising twist in the day's agenda. This moment of joy was captured in an aerial picture. This was followed by another surprising activity – a teachers' show for the students. Almost all the teachers were part of the show and students enjoyed the performances by the teachers. It was a delight when teachers presented dances grade wise along with a small comical skit by the teachers of Dhivehi department. One of the main purposes of the special assembly was to entertain the children and make them feel wanted and loved.

After the show, the students spent time in their classes for a small class party and participated in traditional games which students found amazing as most of the games were new to them. Games like, 'fas 'oh' (played with five marbles on white sand), 'ohvalhugondi' (a kind of mancala game played by 2 players using shells, seeds or pebbles), and other board games played in the olden days were set up in the classrooms and which students took turns and to play each game. Before the celebration ended, the students were given a 'Movie time' during which the grades 1 to 5 enjoyed watching the 'Stork' while the grades 6 to 10 watched the inspirational movie 'Pele'. Although the movie time was brief, they enjoyed the time as much as they did during the show time.

With smiling faces, all students left school with a small gift from their class teachers. It was a very successful event organised and conducted with great enthusiasm - it was the perfect example of SYNERGY!
