GIS READS 2018 – Time for another book

{flike}

1st March 2018 was a day filled with jubilation. GIS READS kick off came in with a lot of excitement this year as all the members of the Ghiyasuddin family synergized, replacing the traditional approach of reading. All the teachers across the grades along with the management staff dressed up as characters from books.

Being a character for a day with the memorable and creative costumes not only made the occasion colourful, it also got every child to celebrate and explore the pleasures of books and reading. Students had the pleasure of listening to the stories narrated by the special invitees –“Story Tellers “ of the day. The kids huddled together to listen and interact with them. To add another page to the book, the students spent some time in “A chat with an author” with various authors from the Maldives: Grades 1 to 3’s chat time was with Ms. Nashia Saleem, Grades 4 to 6 was with Ms. Aminath Ibrahim and grade 7’s had their time with Al Usthaz Hasssan Zareer. Grade 8 to 10 students had the privilege of meeting with one of the most prominent Dhivehi authors, Mr. Mohamed Saleem and the distinguished Dhivehi scholar, Mr. Abdulla Sadiq. Respected and loved by all, Mr. Abdulla Sadiq, popularly known as ‘Soadhube” related amusing stories and incidents and showed some of his books to the students.
Popular costume ideas, together with a lot of carefully planned reading-related activities not only inspired our kids to have a new reading experience, but also provided them with the fun-filled day of a different atmosphere in the school premises itself. In deed it was a day of surprise, humour, excitement, happiness and all the rest of the sweeping spectrum of human emotions encapsulated within the school. After all, isn’t that what you’d get in a book when you read?
