Introducing Mr. Fruito & Ms. Veggie

Introducing Mr. Fruito & Ms. Veggie

Under our fruit & veg program ‘Glow & Grow with Fruits & Veggies’, a second activity - Mr. Fruito and Ms. Veggie was carried out today, 25th June 2014. This is an activity which gives a lot of nutritional information on a monthly basis.

This activity started today, with a presentation for the students based on the ‘Health benefits of fruits and vegetables’ and the ‘Power of colour variety of fruits and vegetables’. The presentation was given by our school nurse Ms. Jannath Zuhair. Following the presentation, students were engaged in completing a Quiz Paper.

After the presentation, Mr. Melon and Ms. Cucumber - the fruit and vegetable for the month of June and July were also introduced. The major aim of introducing this is to aware the students that there are fruits and vegetables available locally which are beneficial for our health.
The school will also be monitoring how much melon and cucumber are used in our students’ daily diet during the month of June and July and then a fruit and veg ‘census’ will be done monthly.

The activity ended in a small gathering where teachers provided their students with watermelon and enjoyed the mellow bites.

Year 5’s visit to the garbage dump area - Kuni Koshi No. 2

Our Year 5 students are learning about ‘Waste’ and ‘Managing Waste’ these days and to make their learning interesting we always seek every possible opportunity. Under this aim, today our Year 5 students went to the garbage dump area - Kuni Koshi No. 2 to observe how the waste is managed under various categories. The management of waste under categories was organised and handled by Male’ City Council. The dump area was opened to the public and school students to make us aware of the importance of managing waste.

We believe that making the use of such opportunities widen our awareness on pressing issues such as waste management in Male’. Through this visit our students were able to accept how much waste is being collected within one day’s time and the negative impact on our environment. At the same time, the categorisation of the waste has taught our students the biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste.

Hence, we have planned activities to come up with waste reduction solutions which we also plan to share with responsible authorities in the days ahead.
