GIS conducted a workshop for grades 4 – 7 SLATE representatives on Poetry Writing and Poet-Laureates.  This was held from 18th February to 4th March 2014.The workshop was carried out for 2 weeks and teachers from school as well as invitee teachers joined to conduct the workshop for the students.  Students were given opportunity to write various types of poems such as free-verse poems and imagery poems and also talk about famous poet-laureates such as William Shakespeare, Thomas Hardy and William Wordsworth.

During the sessions, the works done by students were displayed on the display boards. Throughout this workshop, students were enthusiastic to get such an opportunity.
The closing ceremony was held on 4th March 2014. At the beginning of the ceremony, the SLATE president, Inasha Eesa, 9A, gave a poetic speech on the workshop, followed by the distribution of the certificates for the participants. The teachers who conducted the workshop were also handed over with thank you poems by the young poets. This was followed by a short speech by our Principal Mr. Thoha Saleem who then talked about how successful the workshop was and that the school will try to conduct more of such workshops.
The ceremony ended with the participants’ feelings towards the workshop.
