Session on Jolly Phonics for teachers and parents

To teach literacy through synthetic phonics, the Grade 1 teachers were trained to use a fun and multi-sensory approach called ‘Jolly Phonics’ last year.

To refresh the teachers on using Jolly Phonics, a series of such sessions are conducted for teachers of Grade 1 this year as well. The first session was held on 05th February 2015 and the second on 12th February 2015. Likewise, two more sessions for the same teachers will be held on 19th February 2015 and on 26th February 2015. These sessions are facilitated by the Jolly Phonics professional trainer, Ms. Mairi Naseer.

In addition to this, to engage parents in assisting student learning, we conducted a Jolly Phonics session for interested parents of Grade 1 on 12th February 2015. This session participated by 45 parents was also conducted by Ms. Mairi Naseer.

One of the main reasons to engage parents in student learning is because we believe that when the child is supported by the parent through continuous praise and encouragement the child adds to his/her learning. Therefore the extra practice the child gets will lead to fluency in reading and help the child manage at school well.
