Activity Day is an event GIS holds in the aim of strengthening the bond between the parents and the school. The event for the parents of Grade 3 & 4 was organised and conducted on 30th April 2015, by the teachers of Grade 3 & 4 with the help of the PE Department and under the supervision of the Grade Coordinators. More than 200 parents attended the Activity Day and enjoyed the activities the school organised for them. Activities such as ‘Balloon Balancing’, ‘Bouncing Ball Race’ and Water Balloon Throw’ were enjoyed by everyone. In addition to these relays, one of the Maldivian traditional games ‘Bashi’ was also held among the parents. The games and activities ended with a final ‘Baton Relay’ which was conducted for both the students and parents of each class.

After the energetic activities, all parents got involved in the day’s last activity: preparing the Maldivian savoury dish, ‘Kulhi faaroshi’ and ‘foni faaroshi’. Also to add an essence of enjoyment, these dishes were judged by some of the school staff just to create some excitement among the parents and not as a competition. After judging, the parents were praised and their dishes were labelled with words of encouragement. Parents were also given a small wall hanger as a token to remember the enjoyable moments of the day.

GIS appreciates the support and cooperation given by the parents to run these kind of events in order to create a familial bond with in the school community.
