Workshop on ADHD
{flike}
Student Support Department of GIS has conducted their first workshop of 2017 regarding “Classroom Accommodations for Children with ADHD” on 2nd of March 2017. This workshop, facilitated by Ms. Malha, one of the Special Educators of the school was held for teachers of grades 1-3.
The main purpose of this workshop was to create awareness on ADHD as an attention difference rather than a disorder and to educate teachers on how to accommodate children with ADHD in mainstream classrooms. Since GIS focuses on inclusivity it is one of our priorities to educate teachers on how to be professional and flexible to the needs of all learners as there is no one-size-fits-all.
In addition to this, the Student Support Department introduced ‘a fidget box’ that will be helpful in catering students with sensory needs. Studies have shown that fidget toys are helpful in improving concentration and attention.
Student Support Department will continue to have more special needs awareness workshops for all grades throughout the year.
