Inauguration of GIS Mini Greens Garden

Inauguration of GIS Mini Greens Garden
Gardening is essentially practical work for students to acquire a fund of interesting and relevant knowledge. In the purpose of teaching the importance of microgreens and vertical gardening, GIS started the project with the students of Grade 5. This project funded by the Agro National Corporation, is designed to give students practical experience of growing, harvesting, consuming and commercializing microgreens.
After growing, harvesting and consuming microgreens for more than 9 weeks, today, we launched the GIS Mini Greens Garden and the GIS Brand. At today's function, the students of Gr.5A presented their journey of growing and harvesting of 10 types of mini greens. Invitees from Ministry of Education - Republic of Maldives, Agro National Corporation Limited, PTA ExCo Members and Parents of Grade 5 witnessed the miracles of a seed as the students explained why microgreens are important in our balanced diet.
Microgreens is introduced as a part of Home Economics with concepts of vertical gardening for students of grades 5 & 6.

Biology and Marine Science Field Trip (Grade 10)

Biology and Marine Science students of grade 10 went on a field trip to K. Huraa on 16th December. Students explored the mangroves, measured light penetration in deep water, measured water temperature and density, pH of soil, sampling method for species richness, and Clinometer.
Students gained much needed exposure and helped consolidate theory into practice. We thank Huraa School for their assistance and Huraa campsite for accommodating us.
A special thank you to the parents who assisted the students and teachers during the trip, and we hope to collaborate in similar trips in future.

GIS is a co-educational school catering to children between the ages of 6 and 16 years.
